Sintered self-lubricating cylindrical bearings are high porosity (20-25% by volume) metal components impregnated with lubricating oil. The oil contained within the porosity of the bearing provides continuous lubrication between the bearing and the shaft, so the system does not require additional lubricant or post-assembly maintenance. Self-lubrication allows these bearings to operate with a very low coefficient of friction, enabling high speeds to be achieved. These bearings are suitable for dusty environments where the use of oil is not possible; they are also suitable for applications in contact with water or bronze-compatible liquids.


The system consists of a sintered bearing with porosity filled with lubricating oil, and a shaft located inside the bearing, which rests on the bearing bore. The rotation of the shaft causes a vacuum that sucks the oil from the bearing pores, this oil forms a lubricating film between the bearing and the shaft, this film is continuously renewed with the oil coming out of the pores. The oil is reabsorbed into the bearing pores by capillary action, but the film of lubricating oil remains in the working area without being reabsorbed. When a new work cycle is started, the bearing is already working at full speed.


The main advantages of this type of self-lubricating sintered bearings are that they do not require grease nipples or maintenance after assembly, eliminating any risk of seizure; they have a very low noise level under optimum working conditions; they have a long working life without progressive wear, under dynamic load up to 10 MPa (100 Kg/cm2) or linear speed up to 5 m/s (30,000 rpm maximum).

These bushings are suitable for dusty environments where the use of oil is not possible; they are also suitable for applications in contact with water or bronze-compatible liquids. This type of bearings are used in many and varied applications such as electrical or mechanical equipment for automobiles, electric motors and gearboxes, linear and rotary actuators, household appliances, applications in the home, industrial and agricultural sector and other markets such as mobility, medicine, hospitality, agriculture, toys, etc.
